The Marvell Discovery™ LT family of system controllers for MIPS and PowerPC processor-based subsystems are high-performance, cost-effective system controller solutions for high-volume laser printers, storage networking and other mass-market applications.   Building upon Marvell’s industry-leading Discovery architecture, new Discovery LT devices provide a solution for value-conscious applications, which demand a combination of both high performance and cost effectiveness.

Revolutionary Architecture, Advanced Features

The Discovery LT system controllers are based on an innovative 100 Gbps, non-blocking crossbar architecture is optimally designed to interface with MIPS and PowerPC processors at speeds up to 166 MHz.  These devices provide a very high level of integration with on-chip advanced communications peripherals, industry-standard, performance-tuned I/O interfaces, 333 MHz DDR memory controller and other system peripherals.  Additionally, they integrates two XOR engines to accelerate RAID algorithms to boost performance of storage applications. High-performance I/O capabilities include PCI/PCI-X, GbE MAC and dual multi-protocol serial controllers (MPSC). For users of custom ASICs and legacy system controllers, the Discovery LT offers a low-cost upgrade path to next-generation features such as DDR memory, Gigabit Ethernet and PCI-X interfaces without requiring that they spend millions of dollars in ASIC redesign.
